Who Joined The Made in America Bandwagon?

Since tomorrow is President's Day, I thought it only fitting to share that the Price of Freedom, a gift shop in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, adopted a new attitude almost two years ago.  Their products now display the words Made in the USA on them.  What a great example of patriotism!  The Price of Freedom: Americans at War is also the name of an exhibit at the museum.  Here is a list of other exhibits.

If you happen to find yourself in Washington, D.C. or within driving distance, here is the Smithsonian's Plan Your Visit page.  It would make a great field trip for the kids - big and small.

What do you have planned for Presidents' Day?

Shop-A-Thon Thursday

Welcome to another week of Shop-A-Thon Thursday.  This week seems to have slipped right by me.  I am excited to bring you more companies whose products are made in the USA.  I also created a Jewelry page in which all of the pieces are made in the USA.  A holiday outfit can always use a beautiful accessory.  Happy Shopping!

Diamond (Cloquet, MN) Flat toothpicks, colored party toothpicks, matches, Strike-A-Fire fire starters
**Note: I listed these under Baby / Kids on the Shop! page because if you have kids or toddlers that use sippy cups, these are great to clean the gunk that builds up in the little crevices in the tops.
Dirt King USA (WaKeeney, KS) Since "1983, we have been focused on building new and better ways to make a tricycle for pretty much everyone – regardless of their physical size or limitations."
Regal Ware (HQ: Kewaskum,WI; Manufacturing Facility: West Bend, WI) Manufacturer of cookware sets, skillets, fry pans, saucepans, stock pots, cake pans, woks, cast aluminum pans, aluminum griddle, and roasting pans.

See What's New

This weekend I decided to play around with Pinterest.  I found some very cute things to pin to some boards.  It inspired me to create a page here.  It is called the Jewelry page.  Each piece is Made in the USA.  Here is a preview of what's on the page:

Small Business Saturday Challenge

Support your favorite small business.  Today is Small Business Saturday®, a day to celebrate and support the local small businesses that boost the economy and invigorate neighborhoods across the country.  I encourage everyone to Shop Small® today.

Many small businesses are having special offers today so go in and take advantage.

To learn more, visit ShopSmall.com.  You can also find out where to shop.

There are many small businesses on the Shop! page on this blog, so stop by there as well.

Here are some more fun facts in case you want to know the definition of a small business.  This is a link to the SBA's (U.S. Small Business Administration) website.  Not quite what I pictured for a Mom 'n Pop shop.

Are you up for a challenge?  Here's the challenge: When you visit your local small businesses, ask them where their Made in the USA products are.  Start a conversation about it.  Let's also see how many local, small businesses are supporting our U.S. manufacturers.  We create jobs when we create a demand.  Please come back and let me know what you found out.  Be safe.
