Sad Story Before Christmas

I was going to post about something completely different today, but I just turned on the t.v., which is odd for me, and saw the news about a school shooting in Connecticut.  There are 27 victims involved, some of which are children.

I am not one who writes about stories in the news.  I figure there are several sources for that.  However, I cannot imagine receiving news that there was a shooting at my child's elementary school, especially just before they break for winter holiday.  My heart is breaking for these people.

In the report that I was reading, there were statements from the school district's superintendant.  Can you imagine having to have a plan in place in case there is a shooting in your school district?  How do you bring that up in a meeting of school officials?

My prayers go out to the entire town.

  1. I've been following this, it's horrific and heart wrenching at any time of year, but especially so just before Christmas.

    1. Hi Annmarie,
You're right. The whole world needs a prayer. Nothing describes the amount of grief that this town is going through. I can't even imagine how they begin to reassure the kids who survived to feel safe again.

  3. I didn't hear about it until almost the end of the school day here in CA... so long after it happened... I was just helping at school and listening to a CD in my car.

    I was floored and tearful.

    It makes me angry too.

We live in an area with a fair amount of violent crime, so our schools practice going into lock-down along with our fire drills... my worse nightmare.

    1. Hi AJ,
I couldn't imagine having that as one of your protocols for school: Prepare for school shootings. That just leaves me speechless and sad. I find it an absolute sad testament. We need to bring the family unit back as the center of a kid's life. It makes me sad to think of what that shooter was thinking or what prompted him to do what he did.
